South West Surrey Outreach donation from Surrey Fire Service

With the assistance of the Aerial Ladder Platform, SCC Executive Member Helyn Clack, extends her support by presenting each charity with a generous cheque.

This week the South West Surrey Domestic Abuse Outreach Service and the Fire Fighters Charity will be cashing the proceeds of a charity carwash organised by Guildford fire station.

The event held at the end of May raised an impressive £2133, which was divided between the two organisations and presented to their representatives on Friday (25 July 2008) by Helyn Clack, Surrey County Council’s Executive Member for Safer and Stronger Communities.

The Manager of the Outreach Service, Pauline said: "We are very grateful to our new friends at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service who helped us to raise this money, and to the members of the public who came to have their cars washed and to show their support for the work we do. The money will help us go even further to providing sensitive ways of supporting people who are living with Domestic Abuse."

Pauline went on to explain: “The funds will be used to increase the one-to-one support being offered to victims and survivors of Domestic Abuse, and for children who may have suffered by witnessing the abuse, to have a special treat this summer.

Group Manager John O’Brien at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service accepted the cheque on behalf of the Fire Fighters Charity adding:  “We are keen to support both of these charities.  The connection with the Firefighters’ Charity is obvious but we also have a natural synergy with South West Surrey Domestic Abuse Outreach service as they support some of our target group who are vulnerable and more at risk of suffering the ill effects of fire.

The carwash ran from 10am to 4pm and crews from Guildford fire station washed over 250 vehicles.
