We operate in a complex social and political environment. Our core business of providing hostel accommodation for the homeless is dependent on government policy and local authority commissioning policies and practices.
We work in partnership with 28 local authorities with a growing network of over 30 projects across the country, offering a variety of accommodation and support services to meet a wide range of needs: single homeless, women and families and men fleeing domestic violence, care leavers, alcohol or drug problems, mental health needs, parents and babies.
We support 658 units of accommodation – 393 beds in hostels for the homeless, 139 community-based units and 126 student hostel beds. During the past year, over 60 per cent of our service users were able to move on in a positive, planned way.
With an average stay of only 27 weeks in our hostels for the homeless, we provided support to more than 700 people during 2006-07. These came with many different needs and we helped 60% to move on positively to living in the community.
